1. London, United Kingdom

With its rich heritage, world-famous landmarks, and vibrant arts scene, London reigns as Europe’s top cultural hotspot. There are a staggering 791 cultural and historic activities to engage in here, catering to all interests and passions. Whether you want to journey back in time at the historic Tower of London or join a captivating Sherlock Holmes tour through the city's streets, London has plenty of options to keep you happy.

The city is also home to an impressive 235 museums and galleries, which is more than anywhere else we looked at. The British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum, and the Tate Modern are just a few examples where you browse huge collections of art, history, and culture from all around the world. The best part? Most of these are free to enter and explore!

Theatre lovers are in for a treat here too, as London is known for its world-class West End shows. From captivating dramas to mesmerising musicals, the performances here promise an unforgettable experience for anyone who appreciates the magic of the stage.

2. Berlin, Germany

Berlin rightfully earns a spot as the second-best city in Europe for culture, thanks to its many cultural attractions and rich history. There are 596 cultural activities on offer here, as well as 124 museums – fewer than London, but still impressive.

Berlin is one of the most affordable cities on the list, too, with the average entry ticket for activities costing just €27.98. When you add this to the list of everything else Berlin has to offer, it’s no surprise that one in six people who visit go back again for more.

3. Paris, France

In third place is Paris, with a very impressive 793 cultural and historic activities to enjoy. Wander through the bohemian district of Montmartre, stop by the Moulin Rouge to catch a cabaret show, or spend a day getting lost in the Louvre Museum – whatever you choose, you’re guaranteed a good time in the French capital.

Paris doesn’t have quite as much to offer for theatre fans, with only 65 shows available, but that won’t matter when you’re too busy exploring every corner of the city’s charming streets.

Prague is a dream come true for theatre enthusiasts, with its incredible offering of 371 shows, outshining any other city. We recommend putting Prague’s National Theatre top of your list if you do plan to visit; serving as the national monument of Czech history and art, this famous theatre offers performances ranging from grand operas to classical ballets.

There are also 493 cultural activities to check out in Prague, including exploring the famous Prague Castle. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the castle offers stunning architecture, historical significance, and picturesque views of the city.

6. Rome, Italy

Rome, with its rich historical legacy, ranks as Europe's sixth-best city for culture, helped out by Italy's status as the country with the highest number of world heritage sites – an impressive 58 in total.
